Indiana Secretary of Commerce Victor Smith says a string of new air service announcements in Indiana illustrates the state’s economic strength. Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) today announced new nonstop service from Indianapolis to Boston and Los Angeles beginning in June. Smith says economic expansion “relies on air service,” and the new options will allow companies more access to potential customers, employees and board members. Smith says the momentum is not building solely in Indianapolis. Airports in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Evansville have added or increased services to cities including Newark, Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indianapolis Airport Authority (IAA) is pleased to announce today that Southwest Airlines extended its flight schedule adding new, nonstop service. Starting in June, Southwest will launch new, daily nonstop service between Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), once daily, and between IND and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), twice daily.

“These two new nonstop flights to Los Angeles and Boston provide a significant expansion of flight service into key business markets for our airport,” said Michael Wells, president of the IAA board of directors. “Our travelers will greatly benefit from this additional service through new flight options and enhanced competition, further boosting the level of air service our airport provides.”

“Southwest Airlines has continually expanded their number of destinations from Indianapolis, helping us grow the more than 7 million business and leisure travelers we serve each year. These new nonstop flights will expand our reliable and convenient air travel to both the East and West coasts and will benefit our local economy.” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director with the IAA.

Southwest is offering special, introductory pricing for purchase today through Dec. 22, 2014, on new nonstop routes for travel June 7 through August 6, 2015. Customers can now book flights and start making their plans for travel throughout June and July, 2015, by visiting Southwest.com.
