Meet Amy Smith
Economic Development Manager
- Years with the City of Noblesville:
- 7.5 years
- What was your first job and what lesson did you learn there that you brought with you to your current role?
- My first job out of college was as a customer service representative for a student loan servicing company. In this position, I learned how to communicate more effectively, how to problem-solve, and improved my analytical skills. All of these skills are used in my role with the City.
- What led you to your current role? (tell us about your education and/or background)
- I was a stay-at-home mom for about 7 years then transitioned back into the workforce with Noblesville Schools. I was a secretary at two elementary schools. As my children got older and my oldest entered into high school, I decided it was time to venture back to working full-time. My niece was a high school intern in Economic Development and told me about an opportunity with the department. Fortunately, I interviewed and was offered the position. I feel very lucky to be a part of the team!
I have a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. I am also a graduate of Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute. I plan to complete the necessary courses to become a Certified Economic Development Finance Professional.

- What is your role in the department and what would a person come to you about?
- I am an Economic Development Manager. I oversee the department’s financial and accounting programs, budgeting and reporting, and analysis of financial data for planning and incentive purposes under the direction of the Director. Additionally, I manage certain boards and commissions that are under the Economic Development Department’s purview.
- What do you like most about working in economic development?
- I have lived in Noblesville since early childhood and am proud to be a Miller. I enjoy having a front-row seat to the growth and changes in our community. It’s exciting to be a part of.
- Tell us about your community involvement.
- I was previously involved with the Noblesville Boys & Girls Club Ladies Auxiliary and was a past treasurer for the Noblesville High School Choir Parent Organization.
- What do you like to do in your spare time?
- I enjoy spending time with my husband, Len, and our three children (Ian, Erin, & Alaina) and our four dogs. We enjoy camping, watching movies, tailgating at Purdue football games, and hanging out with family and friends.
- What concert do you have to see at Ruoff Music Center?
- I’m a big fan of Chris Stapleton and Zac Brown Band. I have been to two ZBB “eat & greet” events. Great food and very exciting to be able to interact with the band.
- What sports do you watch and who do you cheer for?
- I don’t watch many professional sporting events. I did enjoy watching my kids’ activities (soccer, cheer, Ultimate Frisbee, and show choir) and I always root for the Millers!
- What’s your favorite quote?
- “Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it” Charles Swindoll
- What’s your go-to road trip snack?
- My favorite road trip snacks are Milk Duds, Hot Tamales, and a fountain Coke.
- What do you order at a coffee shop?
- I don’t drink coffee so it’s rare that I find myself in a coffee shop. If I were to go to one, I’d order hot chocolate with whipped cream.
- What’s your dream vacation?
- There are many places I would like to visit. However, Greece is at the top of my list. I also love Mackinac Island, Michigan – it’s one of my favorite places!
